Chinese hacked major weapons systems: Washington Post

(Reuters) - Chinese hackers hacked their way to obtain access to designs of more than two dozen major U.S. weapons systems, a U.S. report said on Monday. Also Australian media said Chinese hackers had stolen the blueprints for Australia's new spy headquarters.

The Washington Post cited a report prepared for the Defense Department by the Defense Science Board said the compromised U.S. designs included those for combat aircraft and ships, as well as missile defenses vital for Europe, Asia and the Gulf.

Among the weapons listed in the report were the advanced Patriot missile system, the Navy's Aegis ballistic missile defense systems, the F/A-18 fighter jet, the V-22 Osprey, the Black Hawk helicopter and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

The report did not specify the extent or time of the cyber-thefts or indicate if they involved computer networks of the U.S. government, contractors or subcontractors.

But the espionage would give China knowledge that could be exploited in a conflict, such as the ability to knock out communications and corrupting data, the Post said. It also could speed China's development of its defense technology.

In a report to Congress this month, the Pentagon said China was using espionage to modernize its military and its hacking was a serious concern. It said the U.S. government had been the target of hacking that appeared to be "attributable directly to the Chinese government and military."

China dismissed the report as groundless. Next year expect the Chinese version of Aegis ballistic missile defense systems, the F/A-18 fighter jet, the V-22 Osprey, the Black Hawk helicopter and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Avengers 2 is set to be released on May 1, 2014. In an interview with the screen writer and director Joss Whedon, he confirmed that included in the film are Pietro (Quicksilver) and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch). In the comic books they are both Magneto's children.

Quicksilver has a superhuman speed ability, while Scarlet Witch is able to control probability, reality alteration, and chaos magic.

"They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier," Whedon said.

Lamborghini has recently unveiled their latest masterpiece Lamborghini Egoista Concept in celebration of the company's 50th anniversary.

Lamborghini is now focusing on limited edition supercars like the Veneno, which was presented at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The Egoista is designed by Walter de Silva, the one-seat supercar was inspired by an Apache helicopter. Reports stated that the super car is made of carbon fiber throughout its build and even utilizes a removable cockpit canopy that can help save on weight. The Lamborghini Egoista also features a 5.2-litre V10 engine.

"This is a car made for a single person, to have fun and to express their own personality. It is designed for people who want the most extreme and most special things in the world. This car represents extremes of hedonism; it is a car without compromise. In a word, it is selfish," said Walter de Silva.

“I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself. I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head”, de Silva continued.

The Lamborghini Egoista won’t be put into production.
